Statement on Educational Prospects
Dear Esteemed Colleagues,
This letter is intended to make a short statement of my own educational prospects. I can make an attempt to take international classes and earn a degree from a school or university, which will help me to make a new start at another country or culture.
Then, for my education, I’ve decided to focus on languages and literary culture itself.
There is a Turkish proverb that comes to mind: “Bir lisan, bir insan” – we could translate it in a few different ways to English (which is also a very curious and exciting exercise to do it in different ways, and for different languages! Thinking about it makes me get much more interested in learning new languages and about cultures…).
I will translate it as “a new language, a new human being,” meaning that I would like to exceed my current thinking, to think as a ‘new person’ added to my own personage… within a new language or a new culture…
So, I have decided to learn new languages, and ‘be fluent’ in new cultural experiences. In an educational context, I may sign up for language, literature, arts classes; classes in ‘arts & letters.’ I already know and speak Turkish and English (and some French, that I intend to focus on improving), and so I would like to try other languages and cultures… and I will meet new people, and will make new international friends!
As you can tell, this should be a very ‘humanist’ approach to living life – and this is my intention. (Its for my well-being; living among friends and family!)
Sincerely,
Rahmi Orhon Pak, PhD
